Wat Saen Mueang Ma Luang, also known as Wat Hua Khuang, is located in the old town of Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand. There are elements in the temple that suggest it is one of Chiang Mai’s older temples, but its date of foundation is unknown. From the street, one overlooks the temple behind the old walls easily, accordingly, it is emtpy.
The buildings are decorated with elaborate wood carvings and gold work. Two ornate dragons guard the entrance to the temple and large elephants stand by the side. The detailed ceiling is reminding of the Patuxai in Vientiane. The wood carvings resemble the woodwork in Luang Prabang. Supposedly it is a Burmese temple with old brick chedis standing on its back.
