Built during the Qing Dynasty, Guanyin Temple is today the only well-preserved Qing Temple of Chinese Buddhism in Hohhot. It was then the center of Chinese Buddhism in Hohhot and played an important role. The temple was restored in 2006. It occupies an area of 13,000 square meters and consists of, among others, the Mahavira Hall, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Bell Tower and the Tripitaka Sutra Pavilion.
With its huge halls of saffron tiles visible from afar, this massive temple is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin. The colossal statue of the 1000-armed Guanyin in the treasury Yuantong Baodian is impressive. The head of the three-faced statue carries a tower with several heads at the top. In the Great Treasure Hall are large sculptures of Buddha and the 18 Arhats.
