One of the holiest pilgrimage sites in Laos, the That Ing Hang Stupa, is located near the town of Savannakhet. Around this richly ornamented stupa with distinctly Hindu influence from the 16th century, a large complex was created, which became a favorite place of pilgrimage. The courtyard is framed by a covered wall with countless, golden Buddhas.
Origin of this plant is said to be a legend that says that once Buddha, tired from his long journey, should have leaned against a tree here. The stupa is a place where the religion and faith of the locals can be experienced actively. Residents and pilgrims can be blessed by monks here, pray in front of the stupa or meet to incense and make offerings together.
