The castle Fürstenau is a water castle on the Mümling in the district Steinbach of Michelstadt in the Odenwald. It was built in the 14th century by Kurmainz to protect the neighboring monastery Steinbach. 1548-1605 the castle was rebuilt in Renaissance style, which resulted in an exciting combination of different styles. At that time, the impressive arch and the Castle Mill were built on the banks of the Mümling.
Today, the entire castle complex is one of the most beautiful castles in Germany. A visit to the castle courtyard is possible, but due to the private use of the ensemble is subject to varying restrictions by daytime and weekday.
