The Donghe River runs southwards from Hefeng Street up north to the Grand Canal. Close to the Culture Square, it flows into it. The river is lined mainly by residential buildings and is therefore a popular meeting place for locals. During a walk along the bank you can observe the everyday life, especially, of the older Chinese population. Here, music, dancing, singing, entertaining and, of course, taking the animals for a walk.
At the moment there are some works in the riverbed, so the usual boat traffic is limited or stopped. Normally one can drive the Donghe River with a small wooden boat. Several stops along the river allow passengers to get in and out.
