The Lexu Hall, also called the Hall of Families, was built during the reign of Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty in 1403. The building consists of four parts: the entrance hall, the front courtyard, the meeting room and the pleasure hall.

The Lexu Hall was used for occasions such as meetings, ancestry, discussion, punishment, and marriage. As part of the village of Hongcun, the building has been a UNESCO monument since 2000.
