Former Residence of Hu Xueyan is located in Yuanbao Road, near the Qinghefang in Hangzhou. It was built in 1872 and completed in 1875. This old house is a building with traditional Chinese architectural features and western elements. With an area of 10.8 hectares and a building area of 5815 square meters, it clearly shows the wealth of the former businessman who earned his money, among other things, with a pharmacy that now houses the Chinese Medical Museum.
Hu Xueyan’s residence has a compact and exquisite design. Here the comfortable rooms connect seamlessly with the gardens and the building materials can be compared with those of the Imperial Palace. There are many jagged rocks of grotesque form in the gardens. These rocks form the largest artificial karst cave in China.
