The Hu Qing Yu Tang Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine is located at the foot of Wushan in Hangzhou. In 1991, the museum opened on the foundations of Hu Qing Yu Tang Pharmacy, a famous Chinese pharmaceutical company founded in 1874 by the business tycoon Hu Xueyan. Hu Xueyan gained great fame. The people regarded him as the “king of medicine” in southern China. The first head of the pharmacy was not only a successful businessman but also a high-ranking official at the imperial court.
The museum, which covers more than 4,000 square meters, consists of five parts: an exhibition hall, a medical manufacturing hall, a health clinic, a sales department and a restaurant. The museum is visited today not only because of its treasures of Chinese medicine but also because of its great architectural complexity.
