Shifen is a bustling little town and of interest to those who want to take a look at an old railroad town that still retains the charm of former days. Originally built for the transport of coal, the Shife Old Street stop has now become one of the most popular on the Pingxi circuit.
The sky lanterns of Shifen are particularly remarkable. Once as a signaling system for those who lived and worked in the railway industry, the visitors are now painting their desires with calligraphy before releasing the lanterns to the skies.
With a small walk through the forest behind the city, you reach the famous Shifen Waterfall, which is considered to be the widest Taiwan in 40 meters.
