The Lotus Pond is the largest pond in the Zuoying District in Kaohsiung. The name can mislead because this pond has a size of 42 hectares. He sits between two mountains, and his water comes from the Kaoping River. The lake is famous for the view of the sunset with the reflection of the mountains in the pond.
The pond did not have its present size three hundred years ago. In 1686 a mayor built a temple next to the pond and planted many lotus flowers in the lake. Thus the name arose. After two expansions, this pond is famous not only for its views but also for the irrigation of the surrounding farms.
The most interesting thing about the pond is that there are more than twenty temples that worship different gods. The four most representative are the Confucius Temple, the Chunqiou Hall, the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, the Spring and Autumn Pagodas, and the North Pole Pavilion.
