The Ci-En Pagoda is located on Sha Ba Lan Mountain near the Sun Moon Lake. It was built by Chiang Kai-Shek in memory of his mother in 1971. The construction was tough because the materials were shipped over the lake and then had to be pulled up the mountain.
The Ci-En Pagoda is 46 meters high and has become the famous landmark of the Sun Moon Lake. The pagoda is an octagonal building. From here you have a magnificent view of the countryside. In the pagoda, you can ring the mighty bell for blessings and mercy on the part of your loved ones.
With a total length of more than 700 meters, the beautiful path leading to Ci-En Pagoda is a very pleasant and refreshing hike. The number of fireflies reaches its peak in April and May. At the end of the year, you can enjoy the wonders of the plum blossoms in all its splendor.
