The county of Miaoli is located in western Taiwan. The name Miaoli refers to the sound imitation of a word from the native language of the Taokas. The city of Miaoli is the capital of the county and also known as the “mountain town” because of the many mountains in the area, which are popular hiking destinations.
Situated between Hsinchu and Taichung, Miaoli is one of the best travel and holiday resorts in Western Taiwan. There are five major tourist areas in Miaoli, including the Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum, the old mountain railway line, the Dahu Strawberry fields, the hot springs of Taian, the Mingde Reservoir and the Nanzhuang Lion’s Head Mountain area.
