Kuala Lumpur, translated ‘muddy river mouth’, is the capital of Malaysia. It is the administrative, cultural and economic center of the country’s largest metropolitan region. Most people call it “KL”.
Apart from the buildings from the architectural past of the city, more and more high-rise buildings are the hallmarks of Kuala Lumpur’s progress. The city covers an area of 243.65 km² and has 1,588,750 inhabitants (as of 2010).
Among the most important sights of the city are the Petronas Towers, the world’s highest twin towers, and the world’s seventh free-standing building.
