On the right bank of the Danube stands the largest building in the country, the permanent place of Parliament, built in Neo-gothic style. The length of the building, consisting of 691 rooms, is 268 m, the height of its dome is 96 m. Since 2000, the crowning jewels of Hungary are presented in Parliament: the crown of St. Stephan, the scepter, the Reichsapfel and the sword from the Renaissance period.
The building is one of Budapest’s landmarks. The Palace of Westminster, the seat of the British Parliament in London, served as a model. The architect of the Neo-Gothic style building was Imre Steindl. The construction period was from 1885 to 1904.
