If today the beach is mostly the tourists on Koh Samui, the locals in the mountains and the island center still follow their traditional source of income, the cultivation of coconuts and fruit.
Most of the plantations lie in rough terrain on the slopes in the hinterland. This makes the work hard and troublesome, but the soil is fertile and the crops plentiful. Depending on the season longan, durian, pineapple, banana, mangosteen, and coconut are grown all year round. The fruit is sold at local markets in the morning or evening hours.
