Built in the middle of the water on one of the many rocks of the Phang Nga Bay, suddenly a whole village appears on stilts. There are even a school and a soccer field. The village is also often referred to as Sea Gypsy Village, Sea Gypsy Island or Floating Village.
The fishermen who settled here came from Malaysia and were not allowed to have their land as non-Thai. That is why the villagers built their cottages completely on stilts in the bay. Today almost 1,500 people live here, and still (almost) exactly as they were then. Only a mosque and a fresh water fountain were built on the land.
