Wat Suthat (full name: Wat Suthat Thepwararam Ratchaworamahawihan) is a Buddhist temple in the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok. It is one of the largest temples of Bangkok with an area of about 40 ha. King Rama, I had it built for a Buddha statue from Wat Mahāthāt in Sukhothai, the eight-meter-long Buddha Shakyamuni.
Right in front of the temple is Sao Ching Cha, the ‘Big Swing’. It was once a year the site of a multi-day Brahman ceremony in honor of the Hindu god Shiva. On the other side of the Mueang Road, Devasathan is a small Brahman temple district where the preparatory services for the swinging ceremony were held.
