Dubai is the largest city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the Persian Gulf and the capital of the Emirate of Dubai. In the town of Dubai, approximately 85% of the inhabitants of the emirate (2,213,845 inhabitants, as of 2013) live. This is where almost the entire economic, social, cultural and political life of the emirate takes place.
Dubai city is located on the northern edge of the Emirate of Dubai and is divided by the Dubai Creek, a 100 to 1300 meters wide and about 14 kilometers long bay of the Persian Gulf. Previously, the then independent cities of Deira were located on the north and Bur Dubai on the south side.
