The 80 km² National Park Kaeng Tana was opened on 13 July 1981 as the 31st National Park of Thailand. It covers the area south of the confluence of Mun River and the Mekong down to the Lao border.
At the mouth of the Moon River in Ban Woen Buek, near Kong Chiam in the province of Ubon Ratchathani, one has a beautiful view of the confluence of Moon River and the Mekong. The name of this place – Two colored River – is due to the different colors of the rivers. While the Mekong has a brownish-reddish tone, the Moon River has a blue color. Here, both streams intermingle and especially in April, the visitor offers a striking picture.
