The education system in Thailand is three-staged and is mainly provided by the Thai Ministry of Education. In the Thai constitution, 12 years of free learning are guaranteed at school, with 9 compulsory school years. The mandatory schooling refers to the classes Prathom 1 to 6 and Matthayom 1 to 3. The kindergarten and the second secondary education are voluntary. Kids stay in the preschool from the age of three.
There are three levels of nursery and pre-school nurseries: the kindergarten 1 begins with three years, kindergarten 2 after the fourth birthday and kindergarten 3 after the fifth anniversary. Especially in rural areas and in poorer regions it is common for parents to take care of the nurseries.
