The Lamai Beach ends in the south with massive rock formations called Grandfather (Ta) & Grandmother (Yai) rocks. They owe the name of their unique form, which looks like a male and female sexual organ.
Hin Ta & Hin Yai is undoubtedly one of the most original sights of the island. They are revered as fertility symbols by the locals because, according to legend, they stand for a loving couple who drowned in the sea because their families rejected their liaison. Then they shall have become a stone.
You can find the rocks on the coastal road between Lamai and the fishing port Hua Thanon. The view from the rocks and the neighborhood is spectacular; it extends over the sea to the nearby islands.
