The Tirat Empul Water Temple is a Hindu temple near the city of Tampaksiring. The temple complex consists of the Petirtaan, the swimming pool, built around a source of the river Pakrisan. The Pura Tirta Empul was built in 926 during the Warmadewa Dynasty (10th to 14th century).
The Balinese believe that this temple is a place where they can clean themselves of all the suffering of daily life. They also believe that the holy waters of the springs have the power to cure certain diseases. Each of the individual fountains, which pour their water into the spring basin, should be responsible for a particular task.
