Taman Ayun is a temple complex in Mengwi in the Badung district of Bali. The temple is considered one of the most beautiful on the island. Translated the full name means Pura Taman Ayun, ‘temple of the swimming garden’. The temple was built in 1634 on a river island by Prince Regent I Gusti Agung Anon Putra-Raja of Mengwi. The complex is surrounded by many flowering and early-flowering trees.
Taman Ayun is the empire temple of the Rajas of Mengwi and reflects the Hindu cosmos.
