The Couple’s Retreat Garden, also called Ouyuan Garden, is located east of the city of Suzhou. It covers an area of 8000 m² and is one of the classic gardens listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.
First laid at the beginning of the Qing period, he was rebuilt during the duration of the Qing Emperor Guangxu by Shen Bingcheng. Apart from apartments, the garden is divided into the eastern and the western part. The powerful and steep towering artificial rock of limestone is a masterpiece of the gardens of Suzhou.
The Ouyuan Garden is a typical garden in the courtyard shape: the apartments in the middle divide the entire plant into the west and east garden. The buildings and the gardens are connected by aisles. The west garden, which is centered on the “Old House for Curtain Weaving”, is again divided into a backyard and yard. The courtyard is adorned with an artificial rock, and the backyard has a flowered terrace. The main building of the eastern garden is called “Straw hut at the city wall angle “, which served the former house owner as a place for parties and social gatherings.
