Xining is the capital of the provinces of Qinghai in the west of China. The Xining administrative area has an area of 7,472 km² and about 2.21 million inhabitants (as of 2010).
From the new railway station of the city, the journey begins with the Lhasa railway over the high plateau of Tibet.
Even if the city is very Muslim, it is also home to many Hui. Outside the city, the Tibetan influences become stronger. This is particularly evident at Qinghai Lake.
The main attractions of the city are the Dongguan Mosque, the Northern Mountain Cliff and the Ta’er Monastery.
