Houhai, Beijing 2015

The Houhai Lake, literally translated Black Lake, belongs to Shichahai together with Qianhai and Xihai. A 147-hectare landscape northwest of the Forbidden City, marked by three interconnected lakes.

The district was already built in the Jin Dynasty in the 12th century, but through the transformation of the Beihai Park into an imperial garden, the area changes from a commercial center to a popular excursion destination with numerous gardens and residences.

In addition to the three lakes, of which the Houhai is the most popular and lively, the area also includes numerous temples and huts, which are mostly faithful to the original.
