The Great Wall, is probably the most famous and monumental building in China. With an overall length of over 21,196.18 kilometers, it comprises 43,721 individual properties and locations.
The Great Wall was originally built as a real defense system for the protection of nomadic cavalry from the north. Its construction began in the 7th century BC. But it was not until the Ming Dynasty that the Wall got its present form.
Only very few parts of the wall are now in good condition and have been restored by the state. In 1987, UNESCO declared it to be a world cultural heritage. However, it has only been protected since 2006 and can not be damaged anymore.
